• What to feed the snails?

    Today, getting a kitten or a puppy is no longer so original, it’s rather a classic of the conservatives. Another thing, all sorts of lizards, snakes, so to speak, exotic. A good option for beginners to have snails, for example, Achatine or ampoule. However, to have an exotic pet is one thing, another is to care for him. This topic and will address in this article, namely, what to feed the snails.

    Snail feeding rules

    If you are still planning to become the happy owner of a freshwater or land snail, be sure to learn the basics of feeding the future pet.

    Key issues to consider:

    1. what to feed the snails in the aquarium (terrarium, if it is a land snail) is possible;
    2. than it is impossible to feed the gastropods;
    3. feeding dosage;
    4. feeding frequency

    We will consistently analyze these questions for the two species of snails mentioned earlier: the terrestrial (Achatin) and freshwater (ampoule).

    Feeding Achatina

    In general, we can say that snails are omnivorous and swallow everything that you give them. However, you should not rely on the ease of feeding, feeding dishes from your table.Fried and smoked, sweet and salty, spicy and pickled - that is prohibited, if you are not indifferent to the state of the pet.

    Now about what you can feed the Achatina snails. These are primarily natural, organic products.

    • Fruits and berries (pears, pineapples, apples, bananas, nectarines, peaches; cherries, cherries, grapes, etc.).
    • Vegetables (cucumbers, corn, pumpkin, zucchini, sweet peppers, cauliflower, etc.).
    • Greens (lettuce, dill, spinach, parsley, etc.).
    • Calcium, which is involved in the formation of the shell, is also needed, especially during the growth period. For example, the ground shells of raw eggs (chicken or quail); natural chalk shell rock, sepia.
    • Other natural products: oatmeal, fresh mushrooms, sour-milk products (once a week), baby vegetable food.

    These mollusks are most active at night, and therefore they should be fed after sunset.

    As for the frequency of feeding, then the pet itself will tell you. If he eats sluggishly and reluctantly, then perhaps the feeding is too frequent. However, there may be another reason - your pet did not like your pet, try to offer something else.

    In general, young, growing Achatina must be fed daily; Adults can be fed every other day.

    You will also learn about the dosage yourself, directly in practice.

    Feeding ampoule

    With ampouleries, the situation is somewhat easier. Since these mollusks are inhabitants of the aquarium, they get a certain part of the food themselves. They can eat up leftovers for fish if they live in the same tank with them. If they live separately with you, they can be simply fed with dry fish food. Also ampulyariae eat some aquarium plants, do a good job with fouling on the walls of the aquarium, speaking, in some way, sweeper.

    And if you want the ampoule to be healthy and beautiful, then you need to feed them extra.

    White-headed cabbage leaves (pre-steamed) are useful for ampoules. They will provide the snail with calcium necessary for its shell.

    You can make food from bread, various types of cereals (boiled without salt!). Calcium gluconate (or simple chalk) will also be useful.

    The remaining feeding features are not much different from Achatine feeding.

    Just remember that ampouleries live in water, it is impossible for food to lie there for a long time, because water will begin to deteriorate. Strictly observe the dosage, all that is not eaten - remove.
