Apple regularly releases updates for its iOS operating system, which is used on iPhones and iPads. Intermediate updates correct minor flaws and strengthen the security of the system, while major updates contain a ton of new features and improvements. Updating iOS is not at all difficult, and in this article we will explain how to do this.
IOS update on iPad or iPhone
Before upgrading, it is strongly recommended that you back up your most important data. To do this, tap the “Settings” icon on the home screen and open the “iCloud” section, and in it “Storage and copies” and click the “Create a copy” link. Another option is to create a full backup device using iTunes. We will describe how to do this below.
In addition, before upgrading it is worth making sure that there is enough space on the device -This can be found in the “Settings> General> Statistics> Storage” section. Finally, do not forget to properly charge the device or simply plug it into a power source.
To check if there are updates for iPhone or iPad, go to “Settings> General> Software Update”. The system will connect to the Apple servers and find out if there is an update for iOS.If a new version is found, the system will show brief information about it, and more detailed information, if desired, can be viewed by clicking the "Details" button.
To update iOS on your iPad or iPhone, click the Download and Install link. As soon as the download is complete, you will be notified of this and will be asked to confirm or postpone the installation to another time. To start the upgrade, click the Install button. You may need to enter a password to unlock the device. Installing a large update may take some time. Then the device will reboot, after which you will be able to log in and start using the updated system.
IOS update via iTunes
You can also update iOS on your iPhone or iPad via iTunes installed on your computer. But first, we note that the USB port to which the iPhone or iPad is connected may have insufficient voltage, which is why the device will not be able to receive power and charge when connected to a computer. In this case, before installing the update, you should fully charge your smartphone or tablet - if it is depleted during the update, it can disable the system.
So, after charging, connect the device to the PC. If this is your first time doing this, you may be asked if you want to trust this computer. Click the "Trust" button. Launch iTunes. In the upper right corner of the program window, you will see the "iPhone" or "iPad" button. Click it to go to view the contents of the device.
As in the case of the update “over the air”, you should first create a backup copy of the data from your smartphone or tablet. To do this, in the "Browse" section, select whereyou want to keep a copy — on iClould or on a computer. The latter is preferable, because in this case a full backup is created with all the files, and only the most important data is stored in iCloud. Having decided on the choice, click the button "Create a copy now."
After the backup is completed, in the same “Browse” section, click the “Update” button. If there are updates for iOS, a dialog box will appear with the “Download Only”, “Download and Update” or “Cancel” options. To start updating right now, click the Download and Update button. After installation, the device will reboot and will be ready for use.
